1. Going From Simple To Complex
Do you remember what Adenine (A), Guanine (G), Cytosine (C), and Thymine (T) have in common?
Around 5th grade, many of us learned A-G-C-T are the four nucleobases that comprise the building blocks of DNA. Through repetition and reordering, these bases create tremendous variations and originality we see around us.
From something which appears so simple, A-G-C-T, tremendous variation and possibility exist.
What if you were to identify your four personal building blocks and build around these? What could you achieve?
2. Start Building Routines Not Habits
What is a habit? They are effortless patterns performed without much thought. I think of them as shortcuts for our decision-making process.
This is partially why forming good habits is so appealing to us. If we can find ways to offload our thinking to a good habit imagine how effective we could be.
Unfortunately, when your work involves concentration or contemplation this isn’t habit work. (Remember, habits are the effortless patterns performed without much thought).
Instead for your creative work, you should build routines. Routines are the set of actions you follow to achieve a specific goal. And, forming good routines is how you will accelerate your success.
Because knowing the difference between what should be made into a habit and a routine will keep you from experiencing a sense of failure if your habits aren't working and help you be more extraordinary.
