August Is The Sunday Of Months
Is it really almost August? For me, growing up in Massachusetts I think of August as the Sunday of months. August in Boston with its hot days and our last month of the short summer before the fall arrives.
In the spirit of August, I'm sharing three thoughts to help you find time to relax, to stimulate new ideas, and to be inspired.
Let's get to it!
Relaxing Can Be Hard
Resting happens when we cease working.
Relaxing happens when we become less tense or anxious.
Too often we confuse resting for relaxing. Whereas our bodies will physically and mentally force us to rest it takes a commitment to oneself to provide opportunities to relax. When we're relaxed we gain deeper insights and find the joy in the space rest provides.
How will you relax?
Linear vs. Exponential Thinking
Linear thinking tells us exactly how much time we are wasting. We find the time sinks we feel beholden to. We add them up. We look at the problem the same way as before. And, we try to outwork ourselves to gain time for our real purpose.
Exponential thinking shows us how much time we will gain. We see how the old solutions of the past, which worked at a smaller scale, will not work for us if we want to achieve the growth we envision in our mission. With exponential thinking, we invest our time in creating solutions to free ourselves to focus on our passion.
How will you find an exponential solution to your problem?
The Five
What am I listening to on a Friday afternoon writing this? Here's the playlist I created just for this edition. Put it on, turn it up, and let me know which ones you liked. (Tip: if the playlist doesn't open automatically in the Spotify app, then click the download app button and it will open in the Spotify app and play. Enjoy!)
