No Mistakes, No Masterpieces

Entrepreneur Coach On Mistakes, Masterpieces and Improving Your Startup

As an entrepreneur coach working with startups to enhance their performance, one thing which stands out to me is the awkwardness entrepreneurs feel when making a mistake. It’s as though their competency as an entrepreneur is being called into question when this happens.

There are two things I remind them of when this happens: 1) they’re not choking they’re just unaware of what is impacting their performance and 2) the second one is below for you to read.

1. No Mistakes, No Masterpieces

We spend a lot of time trying to avoid mistakes.

Mistakes leave us feeling amateurish and awkward.  The more mistakes we make the more it reinforces our sense of being an amateur.

Entrepreneurs, the price of admission is navigating a sea of mistakes, constantly riding the waves to your destination.

When you arrive at your destination many will see your success as a well-executed plan.  But, you will know the path to your masterpiece is the mistakes you make along the way and the learning you take from it.

2. Did I Improve Today?

Many entrepreneurs get caught up in the action of to-do listing.

Racing and stressing to check off each item before the day ends.  Celebrating the accomplishment of marking tasks complete while losing the context of the goal of the work.

Next time at the end of the day when you’re reviewing your to-do list add in the question “What work did I do today that will help me improve tomorrow?”
